After Krsna explains in the previous chapters about our true identity, duty and the knowledge needed to achieve spiritual perfection, in this chapter He informs Arjuna about the result of applying chapters 2, 3 and 4.
In the beginning of this chapter Arjuna presents a question similar to the one in chapter 3. Here he asks, "Is it better to renounce or to work in devotion?" The Lord answers by describing the actions, consciousness and vision of a person who is acting in Krishna Consciousness. For this reason Srila Prabhupada explains in the purport of the last verse (29): "This Chapter Five is a practical explanation of Krishna consciousness."
The chapter ends by Krsna indicating the initial result of a person that understands Him; '"attains peace from the pangs of material miseries".
