In July 1997 I spent a week in Alaska doing some extensive flying to sample life onboard some classic piston and turboprop propelled aircraft, a chance never to be missed, as these types of aircraft were already long time history in the rest of the world. The following days will be filled with pure flying heaven from early morning hours until after midnight, getting to know what flying life is alike alongside the Aleutian islands of Alaska and Unalaska.
This is a video diary of the following days in the air.
As a sightseeing flight on an Era DC-3 (C-47) had to be cancelled for technical reasons that day, the Era Classic Airlines supervisor invited me to fly a night rotation on an Era Aviation Convair CV-580 from Anchorage to Kodiak Island and returning at midnight, instead. How in the world could I have refused that ??
Here is the the first leg, arriving late at night, capturing a beautiful sun setting at Kodiak Island.
Enjoy with me the Sights & Sounds of Classic Aviation.
Thanks for watching
