The Ramar Paatham is a temple in Ramesearam. Located in the sandy hillock named Gandha Madhana parvatham and renowned among tourists as a temple dedicated to Lord Rama’s feet imprint. The word Parvatham literally meant Mountain. As per the reference in the epic Ramayana, there was a mountain in this place in the ancient times. Also spelled as Ramar Padam or Ramar padham or Gandhamadhana Parvatham, the temple has Lord Rama’s feet imprinted on the chakra in the sanctum in the first floor. It is believed that it is at this place; Lord Hanuman told Lord Ram that he had found Goddess Sita in Sri Lanka.
The temple offers stunning view of Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi from its second floor. It is the highest altitude of Rameshwaram and as per legend; this is the point from where Sri Rama had a view of Srilanka. This is the highest altitude of Rameswaram as per the old historical representations.
