During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
In some instances the version I’ve uploaded will be shorter than the original, and possibly edited by me too. That’s no reflection on the original, but simply an attempt by me to create a radio-friendly version where none previously existed.
Today’s choice is Red Day On Blue Street by Genesis keyboard player Tony Banks and Nik Kershaw. It was first released in 1991 on the “Still” album, and it’s the second collaboration from this pair that I have featured this year. The two of them dovetail so well and complement each other so well that I would have just loved to have heard a complete album by them, but sadly there were only the three songs. This one is probably just about the pick of the bunch, deserving its place as lead track on the album and if you’ve never heard it before then I think you’ll be amazed at how commercial it is and just as surprised as me than it never had a single release.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
