PFEIFFERHORN Summit in 360 // Utah Wasatch Peak 11,331 ft // Full Ridgeline Footage

Описание: One of my favorite Wasatch peaks, Pfeifferhorn has something for everyone. Wooded forest, streams, technical climbs, steep ascents, waterfalls, scrambling, ridgelines, bomby downhills, a lake and of course the peak, are just some of the terrain you'll encounter on this adventure. At an elevation of 11,331 feet with almost 4,000 feet of climbing, this is no walk in the park, but at just under 11 miles round trip, it's doable in one morning for someone in moderately good shape and accustomed to such altitude.

Water is abundant in the first 3.5 miles, so be sure to bring a filter. If not, I took 34 ounces of water and found this ample for my needs.

If tackling on the weekend, especially in the summer, be sure to get there early to avoid the warm temperatures as it's quite exposed the last 1.5 miles, but also because this is a popular destination. Both red pine lake and white pine lake hikes start at the parking lot, which has a restroom, so parking can be tough. I arrived at 6 am, right at sunrise and there were no spots left in the lot, so had to park on the street and walk to the trailhead. Keep in mind that most will not be going all the way to the summit, so foot traffic is heaviest the first few miles. That being said, the trail to the summit can be busy at times, also.

The story of how Pfeifferhorn got its name is an interesting one. Brief history lesson: Due to its prominence and shape, this peak used to be called the "Little Matterhorn". In 1939, Charles "Chick" Pfeiffer, who was a founding member and president of the Wasatch Mountain Club, was found dead in his ski shop with his ski clothes still on. His friends from the club took his ski clothes and climbed the peak in his remembrance. It began being called Pfeifferhorn from then on, but was not officially renamed until 2013 when the U.S Board on Geographic Names approved the change.
