15 Years of Fantastic Discoveries

Since its inception in 1996, the Fantasia International Film Festival is now recognized as the biggest and most important event of its kind in North America, a leader on the genre film scene and one of the country's most popular film festivals. With a varied programming and an emphasis on the imaginative cinema of Asia, Europe and the Americas, Fantasia's offerings range from unique and powerful personal visions to international commercial crowd-pleasers rarely seen in North-America.

In July of 2011, the Fantasia will celebrate its 15th edition. Located in the heart of beautiful Montreal, Fantasia is a cultural and professional destination point, and since its first edition, the festival's ever-growing popularity has attracted the attention of the international film industry alongside a legion of attendees from across the world. Every facet of the filmmaking chain is represented with in-person delegates at the festival: directors, actors, producers, studio representatives, distributors and festival programmers, who get to experience their films with its legendarily enthusiastic, taste-making audience.

Pour la 15e édition du festival de films de genre Fantasia, qui se déroulera à Montréal du 14 juillet au 7 août, les organisateurs ont fait la part belle à la création québécoise.

En effet, trois journées entières du festival seront consacrées exclusivement aux courts métrages québécois. Une centaine de films y seront projetés. Et l'événement est gratuit.

D'ailleurs, l'affiche du festival fait référence à la vieille légende québécoise du cheval noir. La légende raconte qu'un cheval noir personnifiant le diable a aidé un curé à construire l'église d'un village.

Le film d'ouverture sera Red State de Kevin Smith, une oeuvre qui avait fait sensation lors du dernier festival de Sundance, en Utah, en janvier dernier.

De nombreux films venus d'Asie seront également présentés, dont True Legend du réalisateur Yuen Woo-ping, l'artiste qui a réalisé les chorégraphies de La matrice et Tigre et dragon.

Par ailleurs, un des rares exemplaires du classique Phantom of the opera (1925) sera projetée à la Place des Arts.

Enfin, quelques classiques du film de genre seront projetés comme Un génie, deux associés, une cloche (1976), coréalisé par le maître du western-spaghetti, Sergio Leone, en présence du chanteur québécois Robert Charlebois, qui faisait partie de la distribution.

Le jury pour les longs métrages sera présidé par le Canadien Alexandre Franchi.
