Welcome, my name is Phil, and in this video I discuss whether habitable zones can exist around binary star system.
Many exoplanets have now been discovered around two stars which poses some interesting questions to whether they could be habitable.
Two orbital configurations exist for these planets.
P - Type: Planets orbit around the outside of both stars.
S - Type: Planets orbit one of the stars which orbits the common centre of mass for both stars.
The habitable zones can exist for both configurations but show a more distorted shape compared with the single star case.
