Ibram X. Kendi, formerly an assistant professor of African American History at the University of Florida, won the National Book Award with his second book, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. His latest book, How to be An Antiracist, has become a New York Times best seller. Dr. Kendi now lives in Washington, D.C., and is the founding director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. He is a nationally recognized speaker on race and discriminatory policy in the United States. He is also a columnist at The Atlantic.
Kendi spoke at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to a capacity audience at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. A book signing followed the talk.
The program was presented with the support of the UF College of Liberal Arts and Science’s Rothman Family Chair in the Humanities; the UF Chief Diversity Officer; the UF Levin College of Law Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations; and the UF Department of History Gus Burns Memorial Fund.
