In today’s stirring Homily, Father Richard Clancy reflects on the "wondrous way of life" of the Japanese martyrs who, even in the face of death, "always loved God above all things". Jeroboam is given ten tribes, illustrating that the Lord is the ultimate "ruler of all" and that the house of David has been humbled.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 81): A call to listen to the Divine voice: "I am the Lord, your God: hear my voice".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 6:14-29): King Herod hears of Jesus' fame and fears that John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. The narrative recounts the tragic death of the Baptist, beheaded at the request of Herodias’ daughter, a poignant reminder that the "victory of Jesus over death" is often preceded by the sacrifice of His faithful witnesses.
