Surprisingly couldn't find a lot on this rifle range, I did read a few things a while ago about it but couldn't find the information this time around.
Very interesting place and I'm sure with enough digging you'll find something worth while.
Great walk and location, great to finally get out after all this weather as well!
"Old Rifle Range, Kenidjack, St. Just.
The setting up of this rifle range (one of a number in the St Just area) was possibly originally associated with the St Just Battery of the 1st Cornwall (Duke of Cornwall's) Artillery Volunteers whose battery (No 13, later renumbered to 10) was based at the Drill Hall in Chapel Road, St Just (now St Just Town Hall).
It is more probable, however, that these impressive late C19th ranges served the St Just Rifle Corps, of which Richard Boyns was a lieutenant. The range shown on the 1880 OS map was 600 yards long and aligned east-west with the target butts formed of a massive wedge of earth revetted on the rear face by a dry stone wall.
A flagstaff used to warn of firing in progress was positioned just to the south-west of the target butts, probably to alert fishermen not to venture into Porth Ledden while the range was in use."
