Perhaps, that could be the Maghreb Immigrants’ thought while leaving their own countries. There are countless pain points that force them to leave their homeland, absolutely for a better way of life. However, they didn’t meet their own expectations when it came to the French society.

As far as we know, France has been a country of immigration since the mid 19th century. By the end of 1970, along with the increasing number of the Maghreb immigrants in France, immigration emerged as a serious problem in which the North African immigrants or well known as the Maghreb people played a major role. In that context, they didn’t only need to adjust in the alien country, but also experienced unpleasant treatment from the French people.

Racism and the social segregation for the immigrants are very usual in France. These two factors stimulate an inequality in the French society. The existence of inequality in the French society created an inferiority perception for the immigrants. This kind of perception became one of the major factors of the identity crisis for them.

Those things became a causality between each other that led to the existence of the identity crisis, especially for the Maghreb immigrants. Furthermore, Orientalism has given significant factors of this unfortunate reality in the society. Orientalism is a way of seeing that exaggerates the distinction between Arab people and culture compared to Europe.
