After a challenging 5-year infertility journey marked by multiple losses and a pcos pregnancy, our ivf journey led to a miracle. However, at 18 weeks, an ultrasound changed everything, marking the start of a high risk pregnancy. This story highlights the anxieties and fears of pregnancy after infertility, especially for those navigating advanced maternal age, and the moment the anatomy scan tech went quiet and my body knew: something was wrong.
In this video I’m sharing the full story of our 18‑week anatomy scan, the moment they found fluid around our baby’s belly, the weeks of Maternal Fetal Medicine visits, and the day a specialist at NYU told us our son likely had a rare condition called CHAOS — a fetal airway blockage where most babies don’t survive the pregnancy.
I’m not a doctor. I’m an infertility-over-35, PCOS, endo, IVF and NICU mom who’s been through the “perfect” scan turning into a “we have a big concern” conversation. Videos like “Our 20 Week Anatomy Scan Was Great But We Have A New Big Concern” made me feel less alone — now I’m telling the 18‑week version of that story from the other side of a CHAOS diagnosis, EXIT surgery, and 169 days in the NICU.
If you’re:
• 35+ and pregnant after ivf or infertility
• Waiting for your own 18 week anatomy scan and terrified of bad news
• Navigating a high risk pregnancy , scary ultrasound, or talk of “termination”
• Parenting a medically complex or NICU baby after fighting so hard to get pregnant
…this is for you.

• How we went from “routine” scan to Maternal Fetal Medicine and MRI
• What a 28 chaos diagnosis is in plain language and what doctors told us
• How we decided to continue a pregnancy with a rare, life‑threatening diagnosis
• A quick look at birth, NYU EXIT surgery, 169 days in the 61 nicu
• What life looks like now with our medically complex IVF miracle at 4 years old
If you’re sitting in your own dark ultrasound room, or googling every line of your anatomy scan report, I want you to know: the story doesn’t end the day someone says, “something’s wrong.”
