Here, I use 4 volts (this is the minimum that this power supply can provide). Usually, I work with 4-6 volts. The smaller the tattoo area, the lower the voltage and the thinner the needle—for example, 0.18-0.20 mm.
If the design is large, I use 5-6 volts and still achieve good dots. However, if the design is small and I need to work on fine details, I try to use a higher voltage—around 6 volts—to achieve a cleaner result. I barely touch the skin with the needle and use a slightly denser shade of ink than the desired tone. By softly layering the darker ink, I get a clean and precise outcome.
You need to get used to everything and try it yourself—everyone may have a different approach. This is just the way I got used to working.
