“The new Peugeot 208 has something for everyone. With the new CMP (Common Modular Platform and e-CMP (electric-Common Modular Platform) the brand not only uses the well-known PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines for the 208 but the car will also be available in a fully electric version although it will have quite a hefty price tag.

But for now the compact Peugeot will be here with some pretty nice engine variants. Take for instance the engine in our test car, which is a 1.2 liter 3-cilinder turbo engine with no less than 130 hp and 230 Newtonmeters of torque which makes it pretty quick. 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 208 km/h are figures that speak for themselves.

As the GT-Line version it has almost all of the technological features that are available in this segment. Some of which are, for instance: Active Safety Brake with Distance Alert, Active Lane Departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control and the Peugeot Full LED headlight technology that boasts the claw-like look of its lion-emblem.

But how does it drive? Well, pretty good actually. The 208 feels light and nimble on the road, but it’s when you start cornering that it begins to feel solid and planted on the road. This is also thanks to the very wide Michelin Primacy tires, which are substantial for such a compact car. They are grippy but do require controlled steering input to get the most out of the suspension and tires.
Although it’s not a ‘hot’ hatch, it does feel very quick off the line and feels pretty sporty. The suspension is not sporty enough yet but the potential for a GTi version is resembled in this car.
