When I walked in for breakfast and perused the menu at this 60-year-old eatery located right opposite Ernakulam’s historic Siva temple, I couldn't help but wonder if there was a connection to Udupi. A fact that was corroborated by the owner, Mrs. Meena Mohan, whose husband’s family migrated from South Canara nearly a century ago to perform religious duties in Kochi. And Gokul Ooottupra, too, seems to cater to its patrons in the same attitude of service and tradition, I discovered over my leisurely meal here. From staple classics like the vada, dosae, kadla puttu curry, yelle adda to a few inspired creations like the peri peri idli, the vegetarian fare here is the sort that draws in customers by the hundreds each day.
