Ys V - Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand PS2 Any%, English Patch in

Описание: New year, new speedrun! At the end of last year Kaisaan and team dropped an English patch for the PS2 version of Ys V (completely slipped by my radar). I've never played the SFC or the PS2 version of Kefin, so I thought I'd give it a go - the game, and the PS2 remake in particular are known as the black sheep of the series and, while it's plain to see why, the game itself still has a fair bit of charm.

Curiosity got the better of me, of course, so I looked and couldn't find a single video of a speedrun of this version (not even in JP on NND!), so I took that as a challenge to route and learn the game myself. Online resources were pretty scarce (though I'm ever grateful for the one JP site that still had maps up!), so most of the routing was me doing my own testing and charting exp, gold, and drops to plan my attack. If anyone knows of an actual speedrun of this game, feel free to let me know, otherwise I'll happily lay claim to my first world record (even if it was free)!

As for the run itself, this was a first run after my casual play, meaning a ton of safety strats, mistakes, getting lost, deaths, etc. Itook an extra restock after the escorts, bosses didn't go quite as planned, but overall, I'm happy the run came in under 4 hours. I think this time could EASILY be brought down to sub 3:30 and maybe even closer to 3:15 with cleaner gameplay. Now if only there was a way to skip all those switches, particularly in the Central castle...
