Himalaya Ki Ganga is my journey of river Ganga from Himalayas till Bay of Bengal. I am going to share my experiences about the river and communities through serialisation of my videos. These videos will about Ganga and the communities around it and how they are tackling with climatic crisis.
इस अंक मे हम भागीरथी घाटी मे एक खूबसूरत दायरा बुगयाल की चर्चा करेंगे। बुगयाल हिमलयी क्षेत्रों मे 3000 मीटर से ऊपर बने चारागाहों को कहते हैं।
In this episode, we take you to Dayra Bugyal in the Bhagirathi Valley. Bugyal are basically the alpine meadows situated at around 3000 meters altitude. It is 40 kilometer journey from Uttarkashi, the district headquarter to a place called Barasu which is considered to be the base camp for it. From here there is a track of about 9 kilometer to Dayara Bugyal via Barnala which is used as mostly a camp site approximately mid way from Barsu. It takes nearly three to fouor hours and at many places the trek is steep. Though the local consider it moderate yet it is not that simple for those coming from the Gangetic plains.
The biggest challenge of trekking in the Himalayan region is the uncertain climate conditions. It can rain any time and therefore anyone who wish to trek these regions must come well prepared for the same. We survived a strong rain thaht day. In the morning when we started from Barsu, the weather was sunny and we felt it would be great but by the time we reached a bit upward Barnala, it was impossible to move ahead as we faced the fury of rains. We took shelter in a abandoned space of the forest department. Once the rain receded we decided to return. It was a sad decision but definitley not a bad one as trekking was not possible due to flush of mud and slippery trek. That night, when we returned, we faced an extremely powerful rains. We would not have survived living in those makeshift tents or Chhans
with extremely cold conditions. Remember, it was the month of middle of September and we had gone there thinking that monsoon was over but in the Himalayas rains can intrude in any time so whenever you visit or trek in the Himalayan region, be prapared to take a good decision on time and dont feel bad if you are unable to complete the journey. Each journey gives us great lessons and importance is of learning your lessons.
