As part of Operation HIGHROAD, an ADF team of medics, nurses, doctors, a scientific officer and a dentist provide critical support and clinical leadership within the US-led, NATO military medical facility in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The Australian medical team is able to provide a range of services from routine and primary care through to life saving emergency resuscitation, support to aero medical evacuations, trauma surgery and dental treatment.
Australia provides the only dental capability within the military medical facility. Two of the facility’s three main resuscitation teams are Australian led and the Australian team also leads two of the five trauma bays within the hospital.
The NATO medical facility is staffed by specialists and professionals from a number of Coalition partners, including: Albania, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Norway, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Germany, Portugal and the United States.
About 300 ADF personnel are deployed in Kabul, Bagram and Kandahar as part of Operation HIGHROAD, which is Australia’s contribution to NATO’s Resolute Support mission.
