Amersfoort is an originally medieval city to the east of Amsterdam and Utrecht. It is at the edge of their commuting area, and has expanded in recent years. The city centre (the medieval city) is full of historic buildings and streets, and there is accessible forest in to the west and south. Amersfoort is located in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands, bordering on the province of Gelderland.
