The HIGHWAY 20 is the main road in the metropolis of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and is also known as Highway 20. The road crosses the metropolis from north to south and is mostly a highway, and alongside it is a railway track and the Ayalon River that drains rain from the Shfela area. The main section of the road (between the Kibbutz Galuyot interchange and the Glilot interchange) has 750,000 vehicles a day and is one of the busiest traffic arteries in Israel. It connects all the interurban roads that reach Tel Aviv: Highway 4 from Ashdod and the south, Highway 1 from Jerusalem, Highway 5 from the east, Route 431 to the southeast, Route 531 to the northeast, and Route 2 from Haifa and the north.

נתיבי איילון הוא הכביש העיקרי במטרופולין תל אביב-יפו והוא מכונה גם כביש 20. הכביש חוצה את המטרופולין מצפון לדרום והוא כביש מהיר ברובו, ולצידו מסילת רכבת ונחל איילון שמנקז גשמים מכל אזור השפלה. בקטע המרכזי של הכביש (בין מחלף קיבוץ גלויות למחלף גלילות) עוברים 750,000 כלי רכב ביום והוא אחד מצירי התנועה העמוסים ביותר בישראל. הוא מחבר את כל הכבישים הבין עירוניים שמגיעים לתל אביב: כביש 4 מאשדוד והדרום, כביש 1 מירושלים, כביש 5 ממזרח, כביש 431 מדרום מזרח, כביש 531 מצפון מזרח, וכביש 2 מחיפה ומהצפון.
