ODESSA - An investigation is underway after a man was found Tuesday morning decomposing in the Odessa Sam’s Club parking lot. The body was found by a truck driver walking by who says she smelled a foul odor coming from the truck.
Police say there is no exact time frame for how long the man was in the parking lot, investigators say it could have been weeks. Those who found him say they saw the truck parked there all weekend, but never thought anything of it until the smell was unbearable.
“We were on our way back from Lowe’s this morning, and we thought ‘gah lee, look at that truck, and what’s that leaking,’ because it was wet all under that so we were like, ‘What is that?’” said the woman who called police Pamela Robinson.
That’s when Robinson and her friends got a closer look at a truck that had been sitting in the parking lot with them all weekend.
“The windows were all foggy from the moisture or whatever and I didn’t want to touch it of course. And we looked in, he said it looked like pants with a leg, I thought it was one of those drawstring bags,” said Robinson.
But when the police showed up, they discovered a body…Robinson’s worst case scenario.
“He said ‘there is hair in there.’ And I go oh my God there really is a body in there,’” said Robinson.
The body was so badly decomposed that police can’t identify the man, nor can they estimate an age or really how long he had been there.
“It didn’t happen yesterday or the day before, it happened quite a while ago. He’s been dead for quite some time now,” said Communications officer for the Odessa Police Department Steve LeSueur.
Parked next to the red Ford pickup was a white van, after some investigation of our own CBS 7 found that both vehicles were owned by the same man. We found his address and paid a visit to his home, but unfortunately no one answered the door and neighbors claimed to not know him. Due to the possibility that this is the man found in the Sam’s parking lot, CBS 7 is choosing to hold his name until next of kin is notified.
The body has been sent off for an autopsy in Tarrant County. If you have any information regarding this case, you are urged to contact Odessa Crime Stoppers at 333 – TIPS.
