Venice tests access fee for tourists | DW News

Описание: The city of Venice with its picturesque canals has long drawn visitors from around the world. But the city's charm has a downside, too: Venice is suffering from too much tourism.

This week it became the first city in the world to charge tourists a fee to enter. Anyone visiting the city for a day trip must pay five euros during a trial which runs through most of July. It's hoped the fee will help protect the UNESCO World Heritage Site from overtourism.
