The Declaration of Independence describes King George III as a horrible tyrant. Was he really that bad? Professor Allitt, an Englishman who has spent his life teaching American history, shows that King George was a complex figure and that the American Revolution looked very different from his perspective on the other side of the Atlantic.
About the Speaker
Patrick Allitt was born and raised in England. He earned his undergraduate degree at Oxford University and completed a Ph.D. in American History at the University of California, Berkeley. He has taught American history at Emory University since 1988, offering courses on American Foreign Policy, the Industrial Revolution, environmental history, and the American Revolution. He is the author of seven books and has presented several lecture series through The Great Courses, most recently How Railways Transformed the World. His wife, Toni, is a Michigan native, and their daughter, Frances, lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband and two children.
