November 28, 2020 Saturday, 0700, 38F Mounts Wonalancet, Hibbard, and Passaconaway via Old Mast Rd, Wonalancet Range Trail, Walden Trail, Dicey’s Mill Trail, Ferncroft Road loop 9.6 miles, 3500 feet, 7 hrs
Originally the plan was to bushwhack to Scar Ridge West (NE100) but on the drive up, we realized the ski trails of Loon Mountain were closed to hikers. So I decided on Mount Hibbard, one of two remaining, but now delisted 52WAV peaks. We really enjoyed this loop hike as there were stretches of fun scrambling and climbing interspersed between lovely forest walks with soft footing. As were were ascending toward Passaconaway, it began to flurry. The clouds enshrouded us which added to the aura of solitude we had up until we hit the summit. Sadly, Windy.com got ½ of the forecast wrong. Although there were no winds, there were also no views. Oh well. Still it was a lovely late fall hike where we had to manage our clothing layers and don our microspikes for a short time. Looking forward to winter hiking conditions.
