The first time I took this truck for a test drive with the truck camper installed, two things stood out.
1) Despite having the RoadActive Suspension, which greatly helped without the truck camper (sag, drivability, sway), it needs a rear sway bar now. Adding ~1300 lbs with a high center of gravity really affected the handling!
2) The hitch light bottomed out exiting 2 different flat parking lots, hitting the sidewalk. The Toyota Pickup hitch/suspension must sit higher, since it never happened in the Toyota and it has an inch shorter tires.
This video will show the addition of a rear sway bar.
I do not like drilling holes into any boxed frame, let alone 4 of them (2 13mm(1/2”) & 2 19mm(3/4”)), especially since the Colorado is not supposed to carry a slide in camper in the first place. However, Nolathane is not alone, Belltech also does this (for the Colorado). I prefer the Hellwig crossmember attachment solution (not boxed frame) for their end link mounting points. However, this is a stronger Hellwig like solution using the Nolathane rear sway bar and some oversized miscellaneous parts. In addition, the Hellwig bar mounts below the axle which could get hit by road debris and damaged (Nolathane/Belltech mounts behind the axle).
In addition, this solution is less expensive than the Hellwig solution, despite the added additional parts. Hence, I also consider this a value rear sway bar solution, not the most expensive, but has the best features in my opinion (will not get damaged by road debris, stronger end links and mounting points).
Note: Both my 1988 4Runner and Xtracab use Hellwig rear sway bars. These end links bolted around the boxed frame (i.e. no holes were drilled). For the 4Runner, the sway bar mounts above the rear axle. For the Xtracab (2WD), the sway bar mounts below the rear axle.
