Hello and welcome to Friday's edition of Issues and Insiders.
I'm Min Sunhee.
Today we revisit the issues that dominated social headlines this year ranging from teachers' rights within schools to labor reforms.
For more I have Professor Park Namgi from Gwangju National University of Education here in the studio.
Professor Park it's good to have you here.
I also have Professor Cho Hee-kyung from Hongik University with us as well.
Professor Cho it's been such a while and lovely to have you back.


1) Professor Park, how would you describe the year 2023 for the academic arena?

2) Professor Cho, back in September, the National Assembly passed a framework of legal revisions aimed at improving the rights of teachers within schools.
What more can you tell us about this parliamentary effort?

3) Professor Park, amid efforts to better protect teachers in classrooms, conflict has been raging over the fate of a student rights ordinance.
Please do explain this for us.

4) Professor Park, moving forward, the Yoon administration has sought to revamp Korea's college entrance test.
How do you respond to this initiative?

5) Professor Cho, also on the social front.
Korea's dismal birthrate remains a priority for President Yoon Suk Yeol, and he has called on relevant authorities to think outside the box in tackling this task.
What do you care to propose?

6) Professor Park, costly education fees have been cited as one reason behind the low birthrate here in Korea.
What are your thoughts?

7) Meanwhile, Professor Cho, on the labor front.
How far has the Yoon administration advanced in terms of labor reforms this year?

8) Professor Cho, Korea also witnessed quite a number of random brutal acts of violence targeting the public this year.
Broadly speaking, what may be some ways of better addressing this reality?

9) Professor Park, what are some of the more urgent issues that need to be dealt with in regard to the education sector in the new year?

10) And Professor Cho, what are some legal frameworks to keep an eye on in 2024?
