(This is a demo recording for Novello, who originally published Thiman’s “The Nativity” in 1934. With the cathedral choir and soloists Ann Rowley (soprano), Robin Doveton (tenor), Simon Deller (bass) and Anthony Froggatt (organ). From the publisher’s notes: “The Nativity displays Eric Thiman’s grasp of the abilities of amateur and church choirs in his use of themes from familiar hymns and his harmonies and employment of Vocal Quartet or Semi-Chorus.
