According to official statements, the Corporation has initiated steps to identify buildings functioning without renewed rental agreements, properties leased at very low rent, and those with long-term rent arrears. The issue gained attention after it was revealed that an MLA office located in the heart of the city was functioning at a monthly rent of just ₹832.

Mayor V.V. Rajesh clarified that while concessions may be applicable for elected representatives, the Corporation will examine whether similar benefits were given to private individuals and institutions. A comprehensive tenant list is being prepared across Corporation buildings, health circle offices, zonal offices, and shopping complexes.

Councillor R. Sreelakha has stated that there is no personal dispute with MLA V.K. Prasanth and that the issue will be resolved once the existing rental agreement period ends.
