From 8/2 to 8/9/2025, my family embarked on a trip to Cape Cod, MA. While the focus of the trip was not directly related to Railfanning, I did manage to document all the trains I did see while on vacation. A brief description of each day I saw trains will follow:
8/2/2025:
While on the way down to the Cape, we stopped at Leonard street in Lakeville, MA, to see a few South Coast Rail Commuter trains, including the Mario’s Roofing Cab car 1806.
8/6/2025:
We venture down to Orleans, MA, for the Nauset Model Railroad Club’s weekly open house, seeing model trains of all sizes.
8/7/2025:
We visit the lift bridge spanning the canal, dividing the Cape from the mainland, where we see Mass Coastal train MC-1, the Middleboro to Falmouth job, heading back for Middleboro. We also stop at the Sandwich station for the Cape Cod Central Railroad’s excursion, consisting of historic equipment, including a former Alaskan Railroad dome car and 2 restored New Haven FL9s.
8/8/2025:
On our last full day on the Cape, we catch Mass Coastal train MC-2, the northbound Energy Train, at Pine Street in Yarmouth, MA. Note the train stopping shortly after the front of the engine passes the camera. Even though the new crossing gates, lights, and bells have been installed and working, they are still not officially in operation, meaning the conductor must flag the train across. We also stop at the Yarmouth Wye later that Evening for the MBTA’s CapeFlyer, a seasonal passenger train from Boston to Hyannis, connecting vacationers from Boston to the Cape without having to sit in traffic.
