In chapter 2, I talk about my organisation of the 2013 G8 Summit in Northern Ireland which marked President Putin's last visit to the United Kingdom.
In that context, I discuss UK Prime Minister David Cameron's efforts to build a personal relationship with President Putin and the relatively good state of UK-Russia relations immediately before the onset of the Ukraine crisis.
I also explore the importance of statesmanship and how the UK departure from diplomacy since 2014 has been deleterious to efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
My work on the G8 sets the tone for my decision to choose an overseas posting to the British Embassy in Moscow, starting in the summer of 2014.
I have two run ins with the Police in Northern Ireland during my visits...
