10-18-21 | 7:50 P.M. | Kettner & Broadway | San Diego, CA

(619 News Media) SAN DIEGO - On 10/18/21 at approximately 7:50 PM, San Diego Police Dispatch received a call that a man stole a Tow Truck in Pacific Beach. Officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over and the suspect took off. The suspect got on the freeway and was driving at speeds from 5-10 MPH. SDPD Dispatch was communicating with the man over the phone and told Police “there’s a bomb on board and if I stop it will go off.” The tow truck was spike stripped twice and 3 of the 4 tires were punctured. The tow truck had it’s gate lowered and PD stated it was sparking and taking out the reflectors on the roadway. The driver exited near Little Italy where he continued to evade Police at slow speeds. The driver eventually stopped near the intersection of Kettner & Broadway in Downtown. The man stayed in the truck for several minutes before pepper balls were deployed inside. The suspect exited and was taken into custody shortly after.
