Old Abandoned Jail Built in 1885 - Ball & Chain Left in Cells
The Abandoned Ball & Chain Jail was one of the longest running jails in the county before it closed in 2005. It featured two different jails in one. The original jail was built in 1885 and featured the dungeon-style medieval flat bar cells, including the ball & chain. The second jail was built as an addition 1970 and featured more modern jail cells. Both jails inside the abandoned ball & chain jail were actually used until the county built a new jail facility in 2005. It’s has been vacant ever since.
