Abstract: This talk will provide an introduction to the healthcare.ai project and community. Starting with an overview of the project, we'll also discuss it's goals, the value it can provide for health systems both large and small, and real world use cases. We'll finish up with one or two practical examples using the project's Python package with a sample diabetes data set.

Healthcare.ai is a community with education and open source technology tools focused on increasing the national adoption of machine learning in healthcare. It's open source R and Python packages are designed to streamline healthcare machine learning. They do this by including functionality specific to healthcare, as well as simplifying the workflow of creating and deploying models.

Speaker: Josh O’Rourke is a Senior Software Developer at Xtend Healthcare and a software contributor to the healthcare.ai project. Before (very recently) moving to Nashville, he was Director of Solution Architecture at King’s Daughters Health System. There, Josh was critical to the health system's analytics strategy and introduced machine learning to leaders within the organization.
