Hello everyone,
Today, we'll be discussing the MarineFuel Converter application, available on the Google Play Store for Android mobile devices. With MarineFuel Converter, you can easily calculate the weight of an object in metric tons based on its volume in cubic meters, density, and temperature.
This calculator was specifically designed to help you determine the metric tons of your tanks or during bangering (presumably bunkering or fuel loading). Let's go through an example: Suppose we have measured our tank's volume and it's 1,000 cubic meters. From the banger's certificate (BDN - Bunker Delivery Note), we can find the density of the fuel at 15 degrees Celsius. For this example, let's assume the density is 984.4.
It's essential to also take note of the temperature in the tank or manifold when receiving the fuel. In this case, let's set the temperature to 40 degrees. The application will automatically calculate the volume corrected factor, corrected volume at 15 degrees Celsius, and the weight in metric tons.
For marine use, all bunkering transactions are done in metric tons, not in cubic meters or other volume units. Therefore, this application is particularly valuable for chief engineers, engineers, office staff, and captains. With this app, you can quickly input the volume, density, and temperature to calculate the weight in metric tons accurately, anytime, day or night.
The calculation employs Matrix 54, which accounts for the expansion of the fuel volume due to temperature changes, resulting in high accuracy. This is also crucial for banking surveyors.
This application provides insight into the volume expansion of fuels and liquids. By changing the temperature and density values, you can observe how the weight in metric tons varies. For instance, at 30 degrees, the weight is approximately 973 metric tons, whereas at 40 degrees, it decreases to 966 metric tons due to volume expansion at higher temperatures.
Similarly, when adjusting the density, a lower density, say 920, results in around 900 metric tons. Conversely, increasing the density, e.g., setting it to 940, leads to a higher weight in metric tons.
Remember to save your data when closing the app, and the application will automatically calculate the weight whenever you make any changes. Thank you for using Marine Fuel Converter, and see you in the next video.
