Before each film, Linklater gave an extended introduction and would return to the stage after the film for a lengthy discussion. AFS Lead Film Programmer Lars Nilsen co-hosts the event and participates in the post-film discussion.

At only 32 years of age, and buoyed by the major commercial and critical success of THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, Peter Bogdanovich released his follow-up, a throwback to the screwball comedies of the ’30s and ’40s, this time starring Barbra Streisand as an adorable troublemaker who latches on to an uptight musicologist played by Ryan O’Neal. Around them swirls a milieu of thieves, mistaken identities, and romantic complications. Bogdanovich, using the methods perfected by his filmmaking hero Howard Hawks, plays the situation like a Stradivarius.
