North Sentinel Island is home to the Sentinelese, one of the world’s last uncontacted tribes. The Sentinelese have resisted outsiders for centuries, often with violence, and little is known about their language, population, or culture. In this video, I'll walk through all the known contacts that have been recorded to date.

Notable incidents include the 1981 MV Primrose shipwreck, where stranded sailors narrowly avoided conflict with the tribe, and the 1991 anthropological expeditions where for the first time in 300 years, peaceful exchanges occurred.

More recent events have also been violent: two fishermen were killed in 2006, and in 2018 American missionary John Allen Chau was killed after attempting to convert the tribe.
