This stitch creates a detached 3D flower. Start by holding two long needles together so that the points are even- I prefer a 5 inch weaving needle and a 3 inch darning needle. Pinch the thread by the points of the needles, leaving at least a 5 inch thread tail. Now cast on 5 stitches to the shorter needle. These cast on stitches should be tight around the needle and stacked next to one another. Once done, cast on 7 stitches around both needles. The stitches that are cast around both needles are the flower petals. Repeat adding the single needle then double needle cast on stitches until you have the desired number of petals on your flower. Then thread the needle of the shorter needle with the tail end of thread that was pinched by the point of the two needles. Next, slide the larger needle out of the cast on stitches. Then slide the threaded needle through the cast on stitches. This will look funky but trust the process. Pinch the two tail ends together and gently work the flower petals into the rounded flower shape. Once the flower is shaped, tie the tail ends together with a square knot.
