Choice of the Focus mode depends on the subject's nature. Mostly based on the dynamic nature of its movement. Sony has five Focus modes to choose from, AF S, AF A, AF C, DMF, and MF

AF S is used for non-moving subjects like landscapes, buildings, portraits. Here based on the AF point selected the camera Auto Focuses at a point and locks the focus till you shoot a photo.

AF A is a hybrid setting of the AFS & AFC. This is used when the subject is likely to move. The camera chooses to shoot in AFS when the subject is not moving and changes into AFC when the subject starts moving. This is ideal for wildlife, kids, pets shooting.

AF C is used when for moving subjects where the camera continuously focuses the subject till you press the shutter release to shoot a photo. Ideally used for shooting birds, wildlife, sports, or any other actions.

DMF is an overriding function of manually focusing when the camera is set to do Auto Focus This can be used for fine-tuning the Focus using manual focus.

MF is a total manual focus control where the camera will not Auto Focus and the photographer has to manually do it. This can be effectively applied when the distance between the camera and the subject is not changing. This is ideal for shooting landscapes, product photography, food photography, and macro photography in particular.
