Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) reseeded 500 endangered giant clams in the 138-hectare Marine Protected Areas of Barangay Alegria and Tinogboc in Semirara Island, Caluya, Antique.
Through SMPC's Semirara Marine Hatchery Laboratory, the program held last March 16-17, 2022, was done in collaboration with the Department of Energy and barangay local government units.
Giant clams are keystone species crucial to the coral reef ecosystem and act as bioindicators of the overall health of the marine ecosystem. To date, SMPC has propagated over 170,000 giant clams.
