For International Women’s Day, we highlight the leadership of women who are transforming and advancing marine governance in Madagascar.
We introduce Larissa, from Karampona in southwest Madagascar. For years, she has been actively involved in the local management of marine resources. Through the data she collects, fisheries management is becoming more sustainable and transparent: practices are adapting to changes in fish stocks, local rules are being adjusted, and efforts to combat illegal fishing are being strengthened.
Through her daily commitment, she reminds every woman that they are not only beneficiaries of conservation efforts—they are also decision-makers. Her work helps secure sustainable livelihoods for future generations.
At WWF, we believe that women’s leadership is a key pillar of resilience for coastal communities. Inclusion and the active participation of women are powerful drivers for the communities where they are engaged.
On this March 8, let us celebrate local leaders and continue to support and amplify the voices of women.
