🌧️ The Night Before the Climb
What was supposed to be a calm camp night at Lake Tabeo turned into a heavy downpour starting around 5 PM until past 10 PM — with strong winds that made it feel like a storm, even if none was forecasted. Some tents flooded, others had leaks, and we had to regroup and share tents. It was a test of patience, waterproofing, and resilience.

Despite the rough weather, we stayed hopeful. When the 2:00 AM wake-up alarm rang and the skies were clear and calm, we pushed on with the summit plan. 💪

⛰️ Actual Mt. Tabayoc Climb Day (June 22)

2:00 AM – Wake-up call (self-initiated due to quiet camp & no designated wake-up person)

2:30 AM – Cooked and packed breakfast (Spam, Maling, bread, eggs, coffee)

3:30 AM – Initial guide check; advised delay due to 3rd guide not arriving yet

4:00 AM – Request to adjust climb start time granted

4:15 AM – Only 2 guides available, prepared to split group (8 pax per guide)

4:20 AM – 3rd guide finally arrived; reverted to 3 groups:

Group 1: 5 pax (fastest)
Group 2: 6 pax
Group 3 (Sweeper group): 5 pax

4:30 AM – Start of trek via mossy, monkey trail

8:10 AM – Reached summit of Mt. Tabayoc (dense fog, no clearing 😢)

8:30 AM – Group 1 descended

9:00 AM – Start of descent (my group - sweep group)

11:50 AM–12:00 PM – Arrival back at Lake Tabeo camp

12:00 PM – Lunch (Kiniing with gulay, courtesy of arranged paluto with Ma'am Bermarie)

1:00 PM – Break camp, wash-up

2:00 PM – ETD from Lake Tabeo (slightly delayed due to 1 participant)

4:30 PM – Stopover at restaurant along Pulag route (with med cert clinic upstairs)

7:00 PM – Dinner stop at popular climber resto along Kennon Road (driver meals free)

11:00 PM – Arrival in Manila – on schedule!

📝 NOTES:

Mt. Tabayoc guide fee: ₱2,000 per guide (1 guide per 5 pax; extra pax is P250)

Trail type: Mossy forest, root climbing (“monkey trail”)

Summit platform is small - only 5 pax is allowed to be together in the platform; best to take group photo, if big group, below the viewdeck.

Campsite: Lake Tabeo (with toilets and water source)

There are small sari sari store where you can buy water, softdrinks, etc.

There is also piso WiFi near the ranger station.

Optional: Add Jr. Pulag & Four Lakes exploration on Day 1

Paluto can be arranged (coordinate with local ranger staff ahead)
