Join UW Symphonic Band, UW Wind Symphony, and special guests Pikes Peak Wind Symphony for “A Child’s Garden of Dreams.”
The evening begins with the Pikes Peak Wind Symphony, led by Jack Yonce, performing classics like Sousa’s The Thunderer, Vaughan Williams’ Rhosymedre, and Grainger’s I’m Seventeen Come Sunday.
Next, Dr. Joseph Carver leads the UW Symphonic Band through a program of heritage and reflection. Highlights include John Barnes Chance’s Variations on a Korean Folk Song and David Holsinger’s meditative On A Hymnsong of Philip Bliss, conducted by guest Amanda Smith. The set concludes with Gillingham’s With Heart and Voice.
The finale features the UW Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. Matthew Schlomer, performing Eric Whitacre’s ethereal Sleep, led by guest Ashton Tyler, and the concert’s centerpiece: David Maslanka’s A Child’s Garden of Dreams, a visceral masterwork exploring the human subconscious.
