The Indus River Plain Is The Most Fertile Region Of Sindh, Formed By The Annual Flooding And Silt Deposits Of The Indus River, Making It Ideal For Agriculture And Supporting A Dense Population. The Name Sindh Too Originates From The Indus River, Which Was Historically Known As The "Sindhu" In Sanskrit
To The East Of The Indus River Plain, Lies The Thar Desert, A Vast Arid Region With Sand Dunes And Sparse Vegetation, Where Water Is Scarce And Life Is Adapted To Harsh Climatic Conditions. The Desert Extends Into The Indian State Of Rajasthan To The East. On The Western Side Of The Indus River Plain , The Kirthar Mountains Form A Rugged Terrain With Rocky Hills And Valleys, Providing A Natural Boundary With Balochistan And Serving As A Habitat For Diverse Wildlife. The State Also Has A 878 Km Coastline Along The Arabian Sea And Is Only One Of The Two States Along With Balochistan That Are Not Landlocked.



Sindh Has A Total Population Of Roughly 55,696,147 Inhabitants, Making It The Second Most Populous Province Of Pakistan After Punjab With A Population Density Of Roughly 395/km. Sindh Is Administratively Divided Into 6 Divisions, Which Are Further Divided Into 30 Districts Depending Upon Area. The Provincial Capital, Karāchi, Is Situated On The Southwestern Coast, It Is A Mojor Port And Approximately 95% Of Pakistan's Foreign Trade Is Conducted Through This Port. Karachi Is Also The Most Populous City In Sindh As Well As Pakistan, More Than 20 Million Inhabitants Live Within The Broader Karachi Metropolitan Area. Other Major Cities Include Hyderabad, Sukkur, Benazirabad, Larkana.
