I’ve lived with suicidal thoughts for almost two decades. Every year as Christmas approaches, the battle gets harder. It’s often hidden behind the entertainer in me, and the jokes I use to shield myself. This past month, with my 40th birthday closing in, I’ve felt especially suicidal. This morning I woke up and considered taking my own life more than a dozen times.

Instead of doing that, I tried to turn it into a song to connect with anyone sitting where I sit. This doesn’t say suicide is fine, and it doesn’t say it will be fine. It says what it feels like to be here, counting hours, trying to hold on. If that’s you, I see you.

For those white-knuckling December—holding on together, one hour at a time.

This release comes from lived experience—the weight that builds as December approaches, the entertainer mask that hides a fight many of us know. It doesn’t say it’s fine, and it doesn’t say it will be fine; it sits in the truth of trying to hold on hour by hour, for anyone quietly white-knuckling their way to the holiday.
