First Time Winter Backpacking w/ Darwin - What Went Wrong?

Truly everything went as planned, as my plan was to learn! I feel like with a couple small adjustments I could be incredibly comfortable with a very ultralight kit while hiking and camping in the snow. Whether I need these skills for something like the Continental Divide Trail, the Great Divide Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, or anything else rugged and high in elevation.

Sometimes it happens! A thru hike isn't always butterflies and rainbows, sometimes you run into super cold weather, more snow than expected, and other adverse conditions. I want to be prepared, so I take these little trips close to home when the weather isn't even sort of ideal. If I need help I can get it. If I want to change something, I can easily do that for the next time. It's a way to learn new wilderness skills, in a safe environment. Much safer than a multi month long thru hike at least, where you're thousands of miles away from people you know and trust!

So here it is, my ultralight winter backpacking gear list, what I feel I did right in this harsh weather, and what went wrong! There will always be something to go wrong, and the point is to just learn from it, and come back stronger.

On this trip we had snowshoes while hiking near the arizona trail in flagstaff arizona, and we both added a bit of extra insulation to our ultralight kits. I had researched winter backpacking tips before I went, checked the weather over and over again. Prepared to hike in the snow pretty well, but nothing like learning by doing. Overall I was mostly warm, and totally happy!
