STORYLINE:
Muslim Brotherhood activists staged a protest outside the Egyptian embassy in Amman on Wednesday urging their Egyptian peers to continue protests, saying their victory will help the Islamist group rise to power elsewhere in the Arab world.
Protesters chanted slogans supporting their ousted president Mohammed Morsi and held banners and placards denouncing Egypt's military chief, General Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.
Zaki Ben Rashid, the Deputy General Secretary of Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan who was present at the protest, said the ousting of Morsi was a coup.
"The Jordanian government must renounce its recognition of the coup," he added.
Jordan's police sealed off the area around the embassy saying they expect the numbers to swell later.
A harshly-worded statement by the Brotherhood's political arm, the Islamic Action Front, warned Egypt's military rulers that they have fallen into a "conspiracy" hatched by the United States and Israel to weaken Muslims.
As they protested Egyptian security officials and state television said several wanted Muslim Brotherhood leaders were arrested after troops stormed protest camps of supporters of Morsi supporters in Cairo.
The officials said police detained senior Brotherhood leaders Mohammed el-Beltagy, Essam el-Erian, group spokesman Ahmed Aref and its chief theologian Abdel-Rahman el-Bar.
On Wednesday, riot police backed by armoured vehicles, bulldozers and helicopters swept away two encampments of supporters of Morsi, sparking running street battles elsewhere in Cairo and other Egyptian cities.
At least 149 people were killed nationwide, many of them in the crackdown on the protest sites.
