Putin holds security council meeting amid trilateral Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Turkey’s Istanbul

Head of the Russian delegation in Istanbul for Ukraine peace talks, Vladimir Medinsky, arrived at the Turkish presidency's working offices at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul on Friday. US’ Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, along with Ukrainian and Russian delegations participated in peace talks amid tension at the Russia-Ukraine borders. Turkish delegations also participated in the talks centered at mediating between the two nations at war. Ukrainian and Russian delegations met for their first direct peace talks in more than three years of war, holding discussions together with a Turkish delegation, under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two. Putin proposed direct talks with Ukraine in Turkey, but has spurned a challenge from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to meet him in person, and instead has sent a team of mid-ranking officials to the talks. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Putin "made a mistake by sending a low-level delegation". While, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that Russia's Vladimir Putin is 'not ready for peace,' as leaders from across Europe met in Tirana.
