As is traditional a Trooping the Colour parade was held in Casemates Square, Gibraltar to mark the Official Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The parade was held in the evening of 13 June.

The parade is loosely based on the Trooping the Colour parade in London but it obviously on a much smaller scale.

The parade was held in honour of the Queen even though she was not herself present. The salute was taken by His Excellency the Governor of Gibraltar, Lieutenant Edward General Davis.

Lieutenant Edward General Davis took up his appointment as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar in January 2016.

For the previous 34 years, he served in the Royal Marines until his retirement in 2016. His last military appointment was as Deputy Commander of NATO Land Forces in Izmir, Turkey. His previous appointments included Commanding Officer of the Special Boat Service, Chief of Staff of Headquarters UK Special Forces, Commander 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines and Commandant General of the Royal Marines (including Commander of UK Amphibious Forces). As Commander 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines, Lieutenant General Davis commanded the 6,555 multi-national personnel of the UK Task Force in Helmand Afghanistan during the period April to October 2011.

In 2016 he was advanced to a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Afghanistan during 2011. In 2014 he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB). In 2016 he was appointed a Knight of the Order of St John.
