Kacper was 16 years old, an athlete – he played soccer on the school team, was fast, skilled, and many of his classmates admired him. His parents had high hopes for him – they wanted him to become a professional soccer player, so they forced him to train every day, even when he was tired or sick. "This is for your future", they repeated, "you have to try harder, because others are catching up to you".
Kacper didn’t like soccer – he only played because his parents wanted him to. He hid his true passion – painting. In his free time, he painted pictures: landscapes, people, animals – everything around him. But he never showed his drawings to anyone – because he was afraid his parents would be disappointed, that his classmates would laugh at him, that he would be considered "weak" and "unathletic". Have you ever been to a counselor? 🤍 Kacper thought it was only for kids with behavior problems or loneliness – not for him, who seemed to have everything.
The problem arose when the school team had an important match – Kacper was supposed to be the captain. Before the match, he was very stressed – he couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat, and even lost his appetite. On the day of the match, during the pre-match training, he injured his knee – it wasn’t a serious injury, but Kacper didn’t want to play. "I can’t", he told the coach, "I don’t want to play". The coach was shocked, and his parents, when they found out, were angry: "What’s wrong with you? This is the most important match of the season!".
Kacper cried – he didn’t know how to explain to his parents that he didn’t like soccer, that he wanted to paint. Then his class teacher, Ms. Maria, walked up to him and said: "Kacper, I can see you have a problem. You can talk to Ms. Ewa, the counselor – she’ll help you". Kacper was surprised – he thought the counselor couldn’t help him, but in the end, he decided to try. He went to Ms. Ewa’s office and closed the door behind him.
"I don’t like soccer", he said immediately, with tears in his eyes. "My parents want me to be a soccer player, but I want to paint. But I was afraid to disappoint them, afraid they would laugh at me". Ms. Ewa listened quietly, and after a few minutes said: "Your passion is important, Kacper. You don’t have to do something you don’t like just because others want you to. Your parents love you, and they will probably understand if you explain to them what you really want".
Ms. Ewa met with Kacper and his parents – she explained to them that pressure can be harmful to a child, that Kacper has a talent for painting, and that they should support him. At first, his parents were unhappy, but after a few meetings, they understood – they realized that the most important thing is for Kacper to be happy. They decided to support his passion – they bought him paints, brushes, and canvases, and Kacper started going to painting classes.
Today, Kacper is happy – he paints every day, goes to painting classes, and sometimes even shows his pictures at school. He still plays soccer, but only because he wants to, not because his parents force him to. Every time he sees Ms. Ewa, he says to her: "Thank you for helping me find myself". And sometimes he thinks: Have you ever been to a counselor? 🤍 Because if you have, you know how important help is when you don’t know what to do. And if you haven’t, remember – a counselor is there to help you, no matter what problem you have.
