In this video, we are showing what is inside of those 30+ year old batteries. We are offering rebuilding one of the hardest-to-find original batteries for the classic IBM ThinkPad 760 series laptops: the 29H9032 (or compatible 29H9232) Li-Ion 10.8V ~3.0Ah pack. These batteries powered the ThinkPad 760, 760XL, 760EL, 760CD, 760XD, 760E, 760ED, and similar mid-90s beasts – but originals are long discontinued, degraded, or leaking/dangerous after 25+ years.
Watch as we disassemble a dead/failing pack, replace the old Li-Ion cells , which will be replaced with modern high-quality equivalents (safely matched voltage/capacity), rebuild the pack with proper spot-welding/tabs, reassemble the shell, recalibrate the smart circuitry if possible, and test runtime/charge in a real 760 series machine.
Why rebuild? New old stock or "new" replacements are scarce/expensive ($100–$150+ when found), often fake/low-capacity, or unsafe. This custom rebuild approach gets you reliable power for authentic retro ThinkPad restoration, DOS/Win95 gaming, or display pieces – all for around $175 (includes cells, labor, testing).
Key specs recap:
Voltage: 10.8V nominal
Original capacity: ~3000mAh (upgradable slightly with better cells)
Compatible models: ThinkPad 760, 760C, 760CD, 760E, 760ED, 760EL, 760ELD, 760XD, 760XL, and some 755/765 variants
Chemistry: Li-Ion (not the leaky NiCd keyboard coin cells – this is the main removable pack!)
